I am overjoyed to be going to Hove for a concert next week on the 30th August. I have played in Brighton before but this is my first ever trip to Hove and I am really looking forward to performing there and to the whole trip. Going to the English South Coast is something I always enjoy and get really excited about; it’s like a mini-summer holiday. Plus I get to play the piano!
Happy birthday Debussy
Marking Debussy’s anniversary; incidentally it is today his 150th birthday, this time I will also perform the Prelude ‘Feux d’artifice’ (Fireworks Prelude). I have not performed this prelude for a very long time and as with many great other works, it makes you wonder how we sometime get to ignore so many amazing pieces. I guess, there is so much time in ones’ life for all the great works, but at least we get back to them time and time again and we appreciate them even more. Feux d’artifice has an amazing dynamic range and you can hear the sparks clearly over the whole wave of sounds beneath. The glissandos particularly make it very attractive for the audience.
Lunchtime special
I think I have found the perfect dress for this intimate afternoon concert, a pale blue Reiss gown, which suits perfectly the sea, the waves and fireworks. (Pictures and recording will follow.)
