Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) wrote his sonatas later in his life and most of them are believed to have been written between 1752 and 1757.

This sonata belongs to his early works known as Essercizi per Gravicembalo published in 1738. Known for his technique for the harpsichord, many of his sonatas were written as technical exercises. This one has a cross-hands element and it is one of my favourite encore works.
